The classic method of maturation at Laphroaig involves the use of ex-bourbon casks and this also forms the basis for the Laphroaig Quarter Cask. After being aged in oak for several years, the choice was made to transfer the contents of these bourbon casks to so-called ‘Quarter Cask’ casks. The use of Quarter Cask casks ensures that the Laphroaig whisky makes relatively heavy contact with the wood in the cask. This gives the whisky rich and complex influences that tastefully balance Laphroaig's classic peat notes. The aroma of the Laphroaig Quarter Cask is reminiscent of toffee, nuts, vanilla and oak. The flavour is excellently balanced between smoke influences and several sweet layers. This develops into spicy hints as well as a touch of sugared barley. The finish is long, creamy and smoky.
