Production Director Isabella Wemyss has carefully selected a combination of ex-Bourbon and STR (shaved, toasted and re-charred) ex-Portuguese red wine casks to mature Falkland. The spirit comprises 80% first-fill ex-Bourbon casks and 20% STR red wine casks to add a new dimension to the whisky. This offers an interesting take on our usual distillery style by enhancing our STR influence. This introduces more warming herbal notes, red fruit and even some chocolatey notes. The inspiration for Falkland lies in our name. Kingsbarns is derived from the barns in the local villages where, in the 12th century, grain was stored for Crail Royal Castle and Falkland Palace, so it is particularly fitting to pay tribute with Falkland Single Malt, as it reflects our unique location and historical roots. Falkland has a sweet, fruity character and smells of berry sweetness and subtle warming spices.
