This 11-year-old Irish whisky combines the classic smoothness of Ireland with a distinctively smoky character. On the nose, it opens with a soft, earthy peat smoke that is subtly interwoven with notes of honey, vanilla and ripe orchard fruits such as apple and pear. There is also a slight salty freshness in the background, reminiscent of a coastal influence.
On the palate, it is surprisingly full-bodied and oily. The smoke is present but not overpowering; it remains beautifully balanced with sweet malt notes, caramel and a hint of spices such as white pepper and nutmeg. As the whisky develops, hints of citrus and light woody influences also emerge.
The finish is medium to long, with a lingering, gentle smokiness, a slight oak bitterness and a warm spiciness that slowly fades away.
Overall impression:
An interesting blend of Irish elegance and a more Scottish-style smokiness. Ideal for enthusiasts looking to make the transition from classic Irish whiskey to something with more character, without immediately moving on to heavily peated Islay whiskies.
