To celebrate the end of the Cuban War of Independence, US Captain Russell ordered BACARDÍ Carta Oro rum and Coca-Cola® with a slice of lime. Curious regulars asked for the name of this drink. The captain suggested toasting to ‘Cuba Libre’ (Free Cuba) and the original Cuba Libre cocktail was born.
