Writers Tears is a very tasty Irish golden whisky. This whisky, is a whisky that goes back in time and seeks to pay tribute to the days of yore,a time when ‘Pure Pot Still’ whiskies predominated in Ireland. Most of Irish whiskies are distilled three times unlike the Scotch variety, with the exception of Auchentoshan. Peat is scarce used in malting the grain in Ireland, which is why many finishes of Irish whisky are much softer unlike their Scottish variants. On the nose, this whisky has a glorious pot still character, spicy with gentle aromas of honey with delicate kumquat-like citrus notes. An energising flavour sensation of bitter notes is present, battling honey, vanilla and spiciness with alternating sweet notes.
The finish is long with the bitter sweetness of cough syrup, but the honey overcomes it all at the end.
