Oban is one of Scotland's oldest and smallest distilleries. The distillery was opened in 1794. The port town that bears the same name has grown up around it. It is one of the Single Malt Scotch whiskies in which the full, complex flavours of the Highlands come together with the peaty, maritime character of the islands. Oban owes its full, satisfying character to the long fermentation process. The small copper, lamp-shaped stills are among the smallest in Scotland. The spirit distilled in them is slowly condensed in wooden worm-tubs and exposed outside to the salty sea air. This creates a distinctive deep flavour. At Oban Little Bay, the whiskies mature in our smallest wooden casks. This allows for more interaction and creates a fruity fullness and a distinctive, deep smoothness with the distinctive character of citrus, smokiness and sea salt.
