Glenkinchie is a single malt whisky from the last distilleries in the Lowlands, just outside Edinburgh, to which it owes the name ‘The Edinburgh Malt’. It embodies the fresh, elegant flavour profile of the region. Glenkinchie was founded in 1825 by farmers John and George Rate. The distillery was later converted into the brick Victorian masterpiece it is today, with houses for the workers, a field for playing bowls, the two big old copper stills and the largest yeast boiler in the industry. A traditional, single-cast worm-tub cools the spirit, which - unlike a more modern condenser - gives the whisky more character and depth. This offers a crisp first taste. Then light, sweet, fresh and creamy, with hints of flowers and freshly cut grass, underlined by a roasted malt flavour. Glenkinchie drinks neat and is perfect as an aperitif thanks to its aromatic, wonderfully light body and flavour.
