Kilchoman, which has been producing whisky since 2005, was the first new distillery on Islay in 125 years. Like all other whiskies from the Islay region, Kilchoman's whiskies are characterised by a smoky aroma and flavour. The Machir Bay, named after the bay near the distillery, is matured in bourbon and sherry casks, complementing the distinctive peat flavour with vanilla and (citrus) fruit. This subtle sweetness makes this whisky a little more accessible than some other Islay whiskies.
