Sheep Dip The Original Oldbury is an exceptional single malt whisky from the Lowlands region. This whisky is golden yellow in colour, with a delicate aroma and a firm, acidic taste. You will taste both malt and toffee and the finish is downright impressive. Whether you like this whisky or not, it is at least an interesting case. British farmers often called their whisky ‘sheep dip’ (disinfectant) and hid it in casks labelled ‘Sheep Dip’, as a way of hiding the tax, This Sheep Dip is made by the small, independent Spencerfield Spirit Company. This company raises from an old farmhouse, built in 1559 in Inverkeithing in Fife. The range, which also includes Pig's Nose and Old Hebridean, was developed in collaboration with Richard Paterson, Whyte & Mackay's master blender. Sheep Dip is a fresh, spicy, grassy whisky. Interesting, but not everyone's taste. The whiskies used for this blend are between eight and 12 years old and have matured in firstfill casks. Together, they form a solid whole, smelling of fruits and almonds, with floral accents. The flavour is very different again; the strongest accents come from Highland and Speyside. This is a nice change for those looking for a firm malt at a reasonable price. The packaging is nicely retro and deserves a place in the cupboard, if only as a conversation piece.
