Keeping a wine tradition alive for more than 200 years is an achievement in itself. With dedication and craftsmanship, Carta Vieja has grown to become one of Chile's oldest and most renowned wineries, representing the best the country has to offer.
Climate & Terroir
The winery is located 300 kilometres south of Santiago de Chile, in the heart of the Maule Valley. It has been owned by the Del Pedregal family for seven generations and is one of the oldest wineries in the country. In 1978, Alberto del Pedregal Aldunate launched the first family brand, Carta Vieja. With a tradition spanning more than forty years, it remains one of Viña del Pedregal's leading wines. The vineyards cover 550 hectares, 80% of which are planted with red grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Malbec, Merlot, Mission, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. The remaining 20% consists of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Carta Vieja wines are produced in three lines: Varietals, Reserva and Gran Reserva (from the best grapes of each harvest year). Eleven million bottles are produced annually, most of which are exported worldwide.
Vinification
Aged for 8 months in French oak.
Aroma & Taste
After half an hour in the decanter, this 100% Carmenère opens up completely. The grape, which thrives in Chile, acquires a soft, round structure thanks to 8 months of ageing in French oak. Deep violet-red colour with intense aromas of cherries and black plums, complemented by smoky and spicy notes (smoked paprika) from medium-toasted barrels. On the palate, black fruit, black pepper and pure dark chocolate. The finish is soft and round with velvety tannins.
Food pairing

Smoked spare ribs from the Kamado. Grilled lamb chops. Classic with chimichurri.
