The Chardonnay grapes enjoy a perfect living environment, lots of sunshine in the morning and afternoon, which in combination with the fresh wind from the mountain tops gives a lot of strength. The old thick trunks are in a subsoil of clay, pebbles and rock, so the vines draw a lot of strength from the soil. A large part of the bunches are pruned away in the early season, so that the bunches that can ripen become very full. At ideal ripeness, the winemaker of Les Vignes brings in the bunches in the early morning. After which the juice is enriched with a tiny bit of Viognier to make it a little fresher. This beautiful marriage then undergoes a wood aging of four to five months. And yes, that makes it very full and creamy! As soon as we remove the cork from the bottle, we immediately smell a ripe scent of apricots and peaches in combination with hazelnut and vanilla. In the glass it turns a beautiful golden yellow, stimulating all our senses. With our nose above the glass we are spoiled by lots of yellow fruit with vanilla, roasted nuts and some vanilla. In the mouth the tongue experiences a full and creamy feeling. Beautiful deep flavors of apricots, mango, vanilla, oak wood and butter. The powerful attack on the tongue gives some fresh hazelnuts and some spices. The aftertaste is creamy and full, which we would expect from a wood-aged Chardonnay. This Les Vignes Chardonnay is very popular for good reason and we are happy to be able to sell this wine.
