Rupert & Rothschild's Baron Edmond from South Africa's Stellenbosch wine region is an excellent, harmonious and expressive cuvée of red wine, vinified from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot grape varieties.
In the glass, this wine shimmers in a deep purple-red with dark red highlights. A seductive bouquet expertly enters the nose. Fruity aromas of raspberries, blackcurrants and plums are presented and perfectly complemented by vegetal hints of nettle and fresh coriander. On the palate, this South African red wine convinces with wonderfully silky tannins, accompanied by notes of cranberry and dark chocolate. The long finish rounds this wine off perfectly.
The grapes are harvested by hand in Stellenbosch from early February to late March. Once the grapes arrive at Rupert & Rothschild's winery, the berries are fermented in wooden vats and stainless steel tanks. The grapes remain on the skins for 16 to 20 days.
Finally, this wine rounds off harmoniously for 18 months in new French oak barrels (225-litre barriques).
This dry red wine from South Africa is delicious as an accompaniment to fried porcini fillet and roasted asparagus or roast beef in red wine gravy. Before drinking, this wine should be decanted for at least 1 hour.
