This deep red wine from Matteo Poggio goes well with rustic starters such as ravioli or with Burgundian meat dishes such as roasts, grilled meat and medium-aged cheeses. The Barbera d'asti is aged for 8-10 months in concrete tanks and then in the bottle for 4 months. Azienda Agricola Poggio is a Piedmontese family business that has its origins in 1899. Traditional practices have been passed down from generation to generation, with Matteo currently at the helm. The vineyard is located 350m above sea level between the Langhe and Monferrato regions. The hills where Poggio's 12 hectares of vineyards are located are called the 'Collina Croja'; loosely translated from Piedmontese dialect: skinny and poor hills. The soil is difficult to use for normal crops but ideal for vines. These vines are placed on dry sandy limestone, which gives unique characteristics to the wine. To make optimal use of this, only grapes from the 'Croja' are specifically used for the wines that Poggio produces. The grapes are hand-picked and given the personal attention they deserve, which leads to Poggio's Barbera, Moscato, Dolcetto, Brachetto, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Over the generations, the company has specialized in the cultivation of vines and in the production of wine, strongly committed to the revitalization and improvement of its territory.
