On 19 March 1863, in a house in a suburb of Antwerp, François-Xavier de Beukelaer – having completed his studies in medicine and pharmacy – discovered, after years of research, the recipe for a delicious, beneficial liqueur: Elixir d'Anvers. Elixir d'Anvers quickly became famous for its remarkable digestive and beneficial properties. The exceptional quality of Elixir d'Anvers was rewarded with dozens of medals and honorary diplomas, not only in Europe but also in Australia, Africa and the United States. One of the most notable diplomas comes from Boulogne-sur-Mer, France (1887) and bears the signature of Louis Pasteur. Elixir d'Anvers is still prepared according to the old tradition, based on numerous plants and herbs from all over the world, which give the drink its unique taste. FX de Beukelaer can proudly call itself one of the oldest and best-known liqueur distilleries in Belgium!
